Do Dental Implants Preparation Hurt?
Online videos of implant treatment can seem quite graphic and / or off-putting. In terms of patient discomfort, we can assure you that implant treatment really is not as bad as some of these videos portray. Of course like any surgery it is serious but very straight forward. 99.9% of implant surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic. You will feel no pain during the procedure and you will be prescribed pain killers following surgery. The procedure involves the surgeon making a small incision to open the gum and access the bone. The surgeon will then drill into the bone and screw in the implant. A single implant would take approx. 15 minutes to insert.
We would describe implant treatment as a very "clean" and precise surgical technique i.e. there is no pulling or tearing of tissue which causes the pain post extractions. This means the discomfort levels associated with implant surgery are minimal. Nearly all of our patients are pain free 24hr to 48hr after treatment and associated discomfort during those periods is low. This of course is some way related to how experienced and skilled our surgeons are.
At Kreativ Dental our aim is to make our patients as comfortable as possible before and after treatment. We do see many nervous patients and understand the anxiety visiting the dentist or having a new dental procedure can cause. Our Patient Care Manager, Mr Tom Emmerson from Bristol, works at the clinic full time taking care of our UK patients, when required, throughout their treatment. We also offer our patients pain free local anaesthetic. The STA-Wand is a state-of-the-art local anaesthetic device that gives us the opportunity to make a local anaesthetic injection more comfortable. The computer controlled system allows for an even-flow delivery of anaesthetic in a painless, non-threatening manner. It eliminates the "bee sting" effect - the painful consequence of a surge of fluid into a confined tissue area. Anaesthetic gel can also be applied to the gum beforehand, making any injection even more comfortable. Intravenous (IV) sedation is also available at the clinic, administered by an anaesthetist. Sedation costs £90 per hour and will need to be booked on request.
