SINUS LIFT or SINUS AUGMENTATION
Travelling abroad for dental treatment, especially Dental Implants Preparation can sometime involve a sinus lift operation. Kreativ Dental Clinic offer sinus lifts for those patients who require it. A sinus lift can be performed when there is not sufficient bone in the upper jaw, or the sinuses are too close to the jaw for Dental Implants Preparation to be placed.
There could be several reasons for this:
• Bone may have been lost because of periodontal disease.
• Losing teeth, particularly the back teeth, can lead to bone loss. Once teeth are missing, bone can start to be resorbed by the body. Teeth that have been missing for a long time often don't have enough bone left to place Dental Implants Preparation.
• The maxillary sinus may be too close to the upper jaw for implants to be placed.
A "sinus lift" or "sinus augmentation" is a common technique used for adding bone in upper jaw (maxilla) in the area of the premolar and molar teeth. The maxillary sinuses are hollow cavities that occupy the back of the upper jaw. The bone is added between the jaw and the maxillary sinuses. To make space for the bone, the sinus membrane is moved upward, or "lifted." All sinus lifts at Kreativ Dental Clinic are performed by our oral surgeon Dr. Louis Patonay.
The surgical procedure requires incision and reflection of the tissues (gums), removal of bone to expose the sinus cavity, lifting of the sinus membrane, placement of a barrier membrane, and closure of the wound with stitches. Dental Implants Preparation may or may not be placed at the same time as the sinus lift procedure. The operation will be followed by a degree of discomfort, swelling, nasal and/or sinus stuffiness, and pain that usually requires a week of recuperation. Complete resolution of all symptoms may take 3 weeks or longer.
