Taking proper care of your implant following surgery and having a good dental hygiene routine is very important. This article about teeth implants abroad and how to care for them following the surgery will aid you in achieving optimal healing.
Do not disturb the wound. Avoid vigorous rinsing, spitting, sucking or touching the wound in the first 24 hours.
Stitches should be removed by a dentist, nurse or General Practitioner 12–14 days after surgery
This is normal for 24 hours. Biting on a gauze pad placed directly on the bleeding wound for 30 minutes can control excessive bleeding. If bleeding continues please call Kreativ Dental for further instructions.
Swelling is a normal occurrence after surgery. To minimize swelling, apply the provided ice pack on the cheek (from the outside) in the area of surgery keeping away from the eyes. Keep an ice pack on for 30 minutes, and then remove it for 30 minutes. Continue to repeat this cycle to help control pain and swelling for the first 36 hours after surgery.
Dentures must not be worn for at least 48 hours following surgery. Wear them as little as possible in the first 2 weeks. You may need to get your denture relined as the teeth implant area heals
Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid hot liquids or food. Eat soft food and liquids for one week. Avoid a straw, carbonated beverages, alcohol and dairy products for at least 3 days.
You will be given medication for pain relief. Pain or discomfort following surgery should subside more and more every day. If pain persists, you may require attention and you should call the Kreativ Dental.
Antibiotics may be given to help prevent infection. Be sure to take the prescribed antibiotics as directed, and finish the course. Discontinue antibiotic use in the event of a rash or other unfavourable reaction. Call Kreativ Dental if you have any questions.
Good oral hygiene is a must for rapid and uncomplicated recovery. Brush your teeth and rinse gently at bedtime the day of your surgery. Be gentle initially with brushing the dental implant areas. The day after surgery, brush as you normally would and begin rinsing with warm salt water solution (1/2 teaspoon of salt in a warm glass of water) four to five times per day for one week. Do not use commercial mouthwashes because they contain alcohol that can irritate the wound.
Do not smoke for 5 days following surgery
Keep physical activities to a minimum immediately following surgery. If you are considering exercise, throbbing or bleeding may occur. If this occurs, you should discontinue exercising.
Call Kreativ Dental Clinic if you have any of these signs:
* Extreme swelling near your jaws or under your tongue
* Fever or ongoing bleeding
* Pain in your jaws, mouth, or sinuses that isn't relieved by your prescribed medication
